The California family of Pauline Moreno and Debra Lobel made the world news in 2011.

Their 11-year old son, Tommy Nobel, feels that he should become a girl.

Yes, it is a hot political topic and its even been on CNN. It is unstoppable.

Here are my comments:

Straight from Billy the Goat’s mouth. 

Democracy is not a perfect form of government. It has been said that it is government by the common masses. Even before 1791, when the European styled Universal Suffrage became a hot political topic, many special interest groups longed for political freedom. The old ways of a rich man’s world was already rapidly changing as the western styled democracy presented every man with equal rights and a vote. The next logical progression was a vote for women, then came the political voice for any special interest group having a large enough block of votes. Anyone can rightly get their issues put upon the political table.

Today we often hear about issues surrounding Gay and Lesbian couples. Looking at the history of democracy, this movement cannot be denied. It will succeed and contribute to the future of our world. This may come as unwelcome news to some other special interest groups. But you must understand that this is the nature of Democracy. Winston Churchill said "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

We should not judge (Matthew 7:1-3) this situation by using anything you may glean from the old books of law. We are fast approaching a Brave New World (Aldous Huxley 1931) and we should not look over our shoulders. For example as little as 200 years ago, very few people could foresee a woman elected to a national political office, today it’s quite common. There is no going back and selectively repressing human rights. Our only option is to advance forward and embrace the future. Because within our democracy we all have an inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness this includes the freedom to make mistakes.

You may ask what will life on earth be like in, let’s say the year2525 (Zager and Evans 1968)? But nobody can predict the future. By looking at our resent past we can estimate that this unique family situation will likely become more common. The issue is placed upon the political table, in front of the public eye. It may soon become common. Following closely will be the next logical step; the acceptance of gender selection at the time of fertilization. You will be able to pick your sons and daughters too, from the bottom of a long glass tube.

People in this situation could live a happy and productive life. They may even produce families of their own. Nobody knows what the future has in store for Tammy. She may follow her family tradition and become partners with some nice girl, settle down and have a family of their own.

Likewise, nobody knows if by the year 2525 mankind can survive the continual progression of political freedom. I ask you; is our modern law following our modern art; is freedom of expression the only rule or do we need to draw a line somewhere?
